Award Description:

The purpose of this award is to provide opportunities for accomplished investigators at the assistant professor level to study pathogenesis, with a focus on the intersection of human and microbial biology. The program is intended to shed light on the overarching issues of how human hosts handle infectious challenge. The awards are intended to give recipients the freedom and flexibility to pursue new avenues of inquiry and higher-risk research projects that hold potential for advancing significantly the biochemical, pharmacological, immunological, and molecular biological understanding of how infectious agents and the human body interact.

 

Information And Eligibilty Criteria:

Eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates will generally have an MD, DVM, or PhD degree
  • Candidates must have an established record of independent research and hold a tenure-track position as an assistant professor or equivalent (at the time of application) at a degree-granting institution
  • Candidates must be nominated by accredited, degree-granting institutions in the United States or Canada
  • Applications from non-tenure track investigators will not be accepted.
  • Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada at the time of application
  • Candidates at the appropriate career stage who have held or are currently holding a Burroughs Wellcome Fund award must contact BWF in advance to determine eligibility for this program

  1. Biosketch of no more than two pages

  2. Brief, half-page research summary of the work you propose doing for the specific funding opportunity

  3. Eligibility statment - Please include a statement of eligibility for the specific award you are applying to. If the requirements state you must be a tenure track professor appointed to your first faculty position no earlier than July 1, 2007, then you should include your start date and current rank.

  4. Award specific requirements - Refer to each opportunity's guidelines for the additional information we may need for a particular award. Examples include naming faculty who will write letters of recommendation or identifying a faculty mentor.
