Award Description:

This support may be used for pilot projects or feasibility studies in basic, clinical, translational, cancer control, prevention, and population sciences research.  These pilot projects should be in preparation for the development of an application for independent peer-reviewed support.  Translational, interdisciplinary, intra and inter-programmatic projects are strongly encouraged. 

Information And Eligibilty Criteria:

Per NCI guidelines, Protocol-Specific Research funds (from the Cancer Center Support Grant) are restricted to the support of nurses and data managers dorectly involved in the conduct of clinical trials meeting the following criteria:

  • High priority, innovative, FEASIBILITY AND PHASE I trials of an agent or device
  • INSTITUTIONAL - conceptualized/designed by a cancer center member
  • INTERVENTIONAL - focusing on initial early phase testing of an agent or device for the diagnosis, prevention, detection or treatment of cancer
  • Not receiving any support through other peer-reviewed research grants, contracts or cooperative groups
  • May be receiving partial support from industry (as long as they are investigator-initiated)
  • BEHAVIORAL STUDIES (even if intervention trials), observational or correlative studies are NOT eligible for these funds.
