The purpose of the Cancer Prevention, Control, Behavioral Sciences, and Population Sciences Career Development Award (K07) is to support the career development of junior investigators with research or health professional doctoral degrees who want to become cancer-focused academic researchers in cancer prevention, cancer control, or the behavioral or population sciences.

Candidates for this award must be junior investigators, defined for the purpose of this funding opportunity as a senior postdoctoral fellow, research fellow, clinical fellow, or similar title; a non-tenure-track faculty appointment equivalent to the level of assistant professor or below; or an assistant professor within the first two years of a tenure-track appointment at the time of a new application or resubmission.

Former and current principal investigators on NIH research project grants (R01), program project grants (P01), center grants, sub-projects of program project (P01) or center grants, other career development awards (K–awards), or the equivalent are not eligible. Former and current principal investigators of an NIH Small Grant (R03), Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21), Dissertation Award (R36), or SBIR/STTR Award (R41, R42, R43, R44) remain eligible.

Candidates for this award must have a research or health-professional doctoral degree or its equivalent.
