 The University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCCC) is pleased to announce a funding opportunity for junior to mid-level investigators with previously submitted, peer-reviewed, but unfunded research proposals. This opportunity is made possible by the Wendy Will Case Cancer Funds gift to the University of Chicago Medicine. These funds are to enable investigators to collect additional pilot data and/or address reviewers’ concerns with the goal of resubmitting their proposals to an external funding agency. Basic, clinical, translational, cancer control, prevention, or population sciences research proposals are eligible.  

·         PI must be a Cancer Center member and is permitted to submit only one application

·         Junior to mid-level faculty (Instructor, Assistant Professor, or early-mid level Associate Professor)

·         Proposals must have been previously submitted to, and scored by, a peer-reviewed agency (e.g., NCI, NIH, DOD, ACS) but not funded

Applicants must submit the following:  

·         Original grant submission

·         Summary Statement/Reviewers’ critiques

·         1-2 page summary addressing: 1) The current status of the proposed research relative to the status at the time of the original grant submission, and PARTICULARLY relative to reviewers’ concerns; 2) Plans for addressing reviewers’ concerns; 3) What is necessary to be accomplished prior to submission; and 4) Proposed timeline for resubmission, and granting mechanism, e.g., R21 or R01;
